Squat Depth Guide
How to work toward better squat depth without forcing it.
A more useful depth goal is a range you can move through with attention and control, not a position you force to match someone else.
See The Rhythm
Use a range you can control.
Watch the full rhythm of a comfortable squat: set your stance, lower with control, pause where you feel steady, then stand tall without rushing.
- Settle. Keep both feet supported before you start.
- Lower. Move smoothly instead of dropping into the bottom.
- Return. Stand up with the same control you used to lower.
Depth is not one universal target
People arrive at different squat depths for many reasons. Your current practice does not need to copy another person's range to be worthwhile.
Start with a position that feels comfortable and repeatable. As you practice, notice whether you can stay balanced and move smoothly rather than chasing a deeper rep too quickly.
A simple depth practice checklist
- Choose a comfortable range that you can repeat without rushing.
- Keep the movement controlled as you lower and stand.
- Let your heels stay supported through the whole rep.
- Stop if you feel pain.

Use feedback to notice patterns
Once your setup feels steady, feedback can help you notice patterns across a session. Use it to choose one small focus for the next rep, not as a reason to force a deeper position.
